The Venue of the Conference
The conference venue will be held at Gdynia Maritime University, located about 2.5 km from the city center of Gdynia.
Gdynia Maritime University is a specialized technical university and the largest Polish and European Centre for higher maritime education. Since 1920 the University has been preparing graduates for officer positions on board merchant marine vessels and for managerial positions at the land-based institutions and companies representing the maritime industry and seaside regions. Welcome reception
A welcome cocktail reception will be held on the evening of Wednesday 23 June 2010 in the University main building.
Conference banquet
The conference banquet dinner will take place on the evening of Thursday 24 June for delegates with Full Registration or delegates who have purchased an additional dinner ticket.
The conference banquet will take place onboard Dar Mlodziezy, the flagship of Gdynia Maritime University.
Dar Mlodziezy ("The Gift of the Young") is the university's training sailing ship, a three mast frigate, built in the Gdansk Shipyard in 1982. She has sailed all over the world and around Cape Horn, winning several races and giving naval practice under real sails for many fleet officers-to-be.
During the banquet the participants will have an unforgettable opportunity to walk the decks of one of the unique sailing ships.
Excursion to Gdansk (optional !!!)
After the symposium the tour to Gdansk its Old Town (with an English tour guide) will be organised for the KES-AMSTA-2010 participants and accompanying persons.
We invite you to the Hanseatic thousand-year-old Gdansk where we will show you many interesting places - the most famous Gdansk monuments located near the heart of its Old Town district, around the Long Street and the quayside. You will walk the Long Street and the Market Square and admire the monumental Main Town Hall, the famous Neptune Fountain, the Golden House, the Court of Artus and the beautiful XVI XVII century houses. At the end of the Market Square you will find the Green Gate. Next, you will see the picturesque old quayside by the Motlava River. Then you will have a chance to see another great monument the Crane. Later, we will take you to the charming Mariacka Street with the largest red-brick gothic church in Europe St. Marys Church. The Mariacka Street hosts also the famous Gdansk amber manufacturers with their gorgeous handicraft. At the end of the tour you will visit the Solidarity Square with the historical Gate of Gdansk Shipyard, where the Solidarity was born.
On our way back to Gdynia, we will stop in Sopot to see the longest wooden pier in Europe.
